Over the years, P&O Captain Lorenzo Paoletti has navigated his way into Port Vila many times, with the able assistance of the local pilot guiding P&O Cruises’ ships to the berth.
During one such arrival, the pilot, Luke Beandi, received a phone call from his wife telling him that their daughter had given birth to a healthy baby boy.
Overcome with joy, Pilot Beandi shared the news with Captain Paoletti, asking him if his new grandson could be named Lorenzo in the Captain’s honour.
A year on, little Lorenzo and his family wanted to meet Captain Paoletti and thank him for allowing their baby boy to be named after him, so a small ceremony was held recently onboard Pacific Dawn where the two Lorenzos exchanged gifts as is tradition in Vanuatu.
