ROBERT Doyle, Lord Mayor of Melbourne, has reportedly backed the concept of a man-made island in Port Phillip Bay to allow the world’s largest cruise ships to dock at the Victorian capital.
According to The Age, Doyle said such a facility could see pax conveniently ferried up the Yarra River to the Docklands precinct, as an alternative to the Melbourne’s existing Station Pier which “was never purpose-built for luxury liners”.
