RESIDENTS of Kapiti Coast,
on New Zealand’s North Island
are trying their best to clean
up their beaches, running
“treasure hunting” events
dressed as pirates.
People are being encouraged
to don their best piratewear
and search the beach for
treasure – rubbish and found
objects, which will be used to
decorate and repair a boat.
The initiative, dubbed
Shipshow was started by four
locals to raise awareness for
climate change.
The “treasure” decorated
ship will be launched on 04
Feb with a show featuring local
musicians, actors, poets and
other performers.
