AN ORDER to “deploy the lifeboats” took on a new meaning in the cruise hub of Miami last week, when a Canadian air force helicopter dropped an inflatable raft through the roof of a shocked resident’s home.
Local woman Luce Rameau told the Miami Herald she was in bed talking on the phone when the 36kg six-person lifeboat came crashing through her bedroom ceiling, leaving her unscathed but covered in dust and debris.
The Royal Canadian Air Force had been on training exercises in Florida and was practicing water rescue missions when the incident occurred.
An investigation has been ordered and Canada has offered to provide assistance to the affected woman.
