The decision by North Star Cruises to
drop its prices across the board has proved
to be a successful move, with the market
responding favourably to the lower pricing.
Speaking to CW, North Star’s General
Manager, Peter Trembath, said that move
in October last year to reduce the cruise
line’s pricing for 2011 and 2012 itineraries
was designed to keep North Star in line
with the changed market.
“In 2009 the economy went south,” he said.
“So as market leaders we recognised that gimmicks were not going to work, and we
adjusted our pricing to values we thought would be a better fit with the market,” he added.
In addition to reducing its pricing, North Star also launched four separate itineraries in the
Kimberley region, including the cruise line’s flagship two-week Kimberley Ultimate voyage,
as well as a one-week Kimberley Georges itinerary (the northern half of the Ultimate itinerary),
a one-week Kimberley Islands cruise (the southern half of the Ultimate itinerary) and the
one-week Kimberley Snapshot which condenses the whole Ultimate itinerary into one week.
“I would urge people looking to cruise the Kimberley to compare cruises” said Trembath,
who added “North Star are now comparable on price, but if you look at it we offer better value”.
