GO west
I have returned from a week-long trip to WA inspired by the enthusiasm I saw from the industry members who are celebrating the return of cruise to that outstanding coastline.
The visit was part of ACA’s ongoing roadshow which began last year as a support framework for operators around Australia.
With the assistance of Tourism Australia, CLIA and the STOs, the program has been a resounding success.
The focus has been on sharing valuable insights on the state of the industry, outlining protocols and logistics, identifying future opportunities and working with destinations to deliver world class experiences for cruise visitors.
I was fortunate to be part of a delegation which included representatives from Tourism WA, Carnival, Akorn, and Intercruises.
Together we travelled to Geraldton and Broome to host the workshops which in each case attracted over 60 operators who are looking forward to the economic impact that cruise calls will bring in 2023.
The resurgence is looking particularly promising for the region.
Additional infrastructure in Broome, with the new floating terminal scheduled to open in 2024, will add greater flexibility to itinerary planning.
In addition to the workshops our group was also treated to a range of wonderful shore excursions showcasing what is on offer for cruise passengers.
