THE Queensland Government has awarded the tender to start dredging and construction on Cairns’ $127 million port upgrade.
RN Dredging Pty Ltd picked up the contract which marks an important next step in the port’s refurbishment project.
“By upgrading our port and allowing larger cruise ships to visit the region, it means visitors from across the world will be spending their dollars on local businesses and restaurants,” said Speaker of the Qld Parliament Curtis Pitt.
By 2031, it is estimated the Port of Cairns will receive 103 cruise ships annually.
