P&O Cruises tempted Australians with a “thrill-seeking activity of a lifetime” over the weekend as pranksters played tricks across the globe for April Fool’s Day.
The hoax promised to launch “Walk the Wire” – the world’s first tightrope walk between two cruise ships as they sailed the Pacific Ocean.
P&O said the safety harness-equipped activity would involve a 30m walk from the top deck of Pacific Aria to Pacific Eden on a cable 40m above the sea.

Meanwhile, the cheeky new entrant to the market, Virgin Voyages, promised to bring underwater wi-fi, which it was calling “wa-fi”.
“Imagine exploring the underwater world, coming across a fish you want to learn more about and being able to do that research right from your phone,” the company said on its website.
When it broke the news that it was all in the spirit of April Fool’s Day, the line assured “As soon as it is invented, we are sure to consider it”.
