WOULD the Titanic have avoided disaster if its skipper didn’t try to dodge the giant iceberg which ultimately sealed its fate?

Well, that’s the claim put forward by former cruise ship officer Jay Herrin in his book The Truth About Cruise Ships.

“The Titanic would have likely survived the iceberg if it had smashed into it head on,” Herrin asserts.

He also claims that the biggest hazard that cruise captains fear are rogue waves crashing into the side of the vessel.

“The side of the ship is the weakest spot in any ship,” he writes.

“When it comes to sailing, the danger of any wave depends not only on its size, but where it strikes the boat”.

Maybe save the book for land.
