AN Australian ocean swimmer recently became the first woman to complete a lap of Lord Howe Island, The Australian reports.
However, the woman was not alone on her trip – she completed it flanked by schools of sharks.
The woman finished the lap in 13 hours and 50 minutes, covering a distance greater than 35 kilometres.
She did not only battle waves and wild currents, but a group of Galapagos, Tiger and Shortfin mako sharks.
The woman told The Australian the sharks were circling her “for three-quarters of the whole way.”
“I went into the swim knowing there were sharks on the island. It’s just one of those things with the ocean and nature. If they were to kill me, what a way to die.”
