AIDA Cruises has signed an agreement with German company My Boo to supply it with bicycles made from renewable materials.
The cruise line has purchased 1,155 bicycles and e-bikes for shore excursions for its 12-ship fleet.
My Boo manufactures the frame of its bicycles from bamboo, with proceeds going to social projects in Ghana.
The AIDA order is also expected to create an additional 15-20 funded and insured jobs for Ghanaians.
“We have tested the bamboo bikes extensively on shore excursions from Antigua to Sydney, and they hold up perfectly,” AIDA said.
“Guests are convinced of the comfort and find the social sustainable aspect simply fantastic.”
